SPECIALIST DISABILITY ACCOMMODATION FAQ’S
What Is Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)?
Specialist Disability Accommodation, or SDA for short, is accommodation designed to assist and physically support people with high needs disability requirements, for example, if the person has an extreme functional impairment.
Who Is Eligible For NDIS Specialist Disability Accommodation?
If you are an NDIS participant, you are eligible for SDA if you can answer yes to any of the three following questions:
- Do you have an extreme functional impairment or have very high support needs?
- Is SDA reasonable and necessary for you?
- Or, do you have an SDA needs requirement?
For more information go here.
In SDA Terms What Is Extreme Functional Impairment?
Extreme functional impairment means that you need lots of additional support over and above what you can receive from standard support including what you can get from any assistive technology or other home modifications. If you have a lot of trouble doing (or can’t do) daily tasks on your own then it’s likely you fall into this category. Call us on 1300 881 884 to find out more.
Is Sapphire Support an Approved NDIS SDA Provider?
What Is Specialist Disability Accommodation Funding Used For?
There is a common mistake that SDA funding is designed for personal services and support. It’s not. It’s used for housing and to help to stimulate investment in high-quality brick and mortar dwellings. You, as a participant, however, will either have SDA funding as part of your plan or not, depending on your needs. The funding for your SDA then goes to the provider to help provide you with accommodation. You can find out more here.
